Where can you download macOS updates? Usually, you can update your macOS version from Software Update in System Settings. Also, you can get the latest Mac OS from the App Store.

If you fail to download the Mac OS updates with the links below, check whether your Wi-Fi condition is stable and your user agent or referrer browser meets the requirements of swcdn.apple.com.
Note: If you still fail to establish a connection with swcdn.apple.com, try downloading the updates with Terminal by running the command below. Remember to replace 15.4.1 with the version number of your desired one.

macOS Tahoe 26 updates download
Notably, macOS Tahoe 26 hasn't been published yet. Only the macOS Tahoe developer beta is macOS 26 SDK. If you are an App developer, follow the macOS 26 Beta Release Notes to get more details.
According to Apple's usual rollout time, the public beta will be released in early July 2025, and the official release of macOS 26 will be in late September or early October 2025. If you want to update to macOS Tahoe, please wait.

How to update your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air
There are three ways to update your Mac. You can upgrade your Mac to the latest macOS or update to the latest minor update of the current macOS.
Way 1. Update your Mac with Software Update
Click the Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update. Then, you can either upgrade your Mac to the latest macOS that's compatible with your Mac or update to the latest minor update of the current macOS version.
Way 2. Update your Mac with the App Store
If you want to upgrade your Mac to the latest macOS, click the Apple menu > App Store, and then search for the latest macOS update - macOS Sequoia to download it.
Way 3. Update your Mac with Terminal
If you want to download a specific Mac OS update, you should use Terminal.
- Open Terminal from Launchpad > Other.
- Enter the following command line. Here you should replace 15.5 with the version you want. softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.5

What to do if your Mac is too old to update
You are wondering, "How to update an old Mac to a new OS?" as your Mac is too old to update. In other words, you need to install a macOS version on your unsupported Mac. To do that, you should create a bootable USB installer for that macOS version first.
However, this job is very complex, as it requires you to run command lines and reformat the drive. For most users, they have spent a lot of time but finally get a bootable macOS installer that won't work.
Alternatively, you can use iBoysoft DiskGeeker. This tool can help you quickly create a bootable macOS installer. All you need to do is a few clicks.
Here's how:
- Download, install, and open iBoysoft DiskGeeker on your Mac and connect a clean USB drive to your Mac.
- Select a volume on the USB drive and click Create boot disk > Continue.
- Choose your desired macOS version and click Create boot disk > OK to download the DMG file of macOS.
- After downloading, click OK on the prompt to start creating a bootable USB installer for that macOS version.
After getting the bootable USB installer for macOS, you should download and install OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Then, use OpenCore Legacy Patcher to install macOS from the bootable USB installer on your unsupported Mac.
