How to fix 'Disk Not Ejected Properly' error?

I have an external disk drive on which I created two partitions using Disk Utility. With previous macOS versions up through Monterey, both partitions would appear on the desktop when I connected the drive, and I was able to eject both partitions before I disconnected. However, after I upgraded my system to macOS Ventura 13.0, only one of the two partitions shows on my desktop. I can properly eject that partition, but I cannot do anything with the partition that I cannot see. And when I disconnect the external drive, I get an error message stating "Disk Not Ejected Properly: Eject the drive before disconnecting or turning it off”. Is there a way to have both partitions displayed on the desktop so that I can properly eject them?

"Disk Not Eject Properly" means there are errors in your operating system, on the connected external removable drives, or in the connections between your external drives and the Mac.

There are some reasons that may cause Disk Not Eject Properly.

  • Errors in the operating system
  • Problems with the removable hard drive
  • Failing external drive cable
  • The USB or other ports on the Mac computer are defective

This error occurred after you updated your operating system to macOS Ventura, so there's maybe some errors in the operating system, but you can still take the following ways to troubleshoot.

After that, you can check whether the error message still pops up.
