macOS 10.14.6 NTFS Bug Leading to Data Loss, Any Suggestions

I was copying files from an NTFS drive to an APFS drive on my Mac running Mojave 10.14.6, only to find that some data was not copied without a warning. I found some files and directories with names ending in either a . or a ? mark in the folder hierarchy that I dragged across in Finder. Although these files are not showing up in Finder on my Mac, they are visible when the NTFS drive is plugged into a Linux machine. The NTFS drive not showing all files/directories on Mojave 10.14.6 correctly and no warning reminding me that files or folders have not been fully copied are nonbusiness of the NTFS driver but they become more serious after updating Paragon NTFS for Mac.

Can you tell me the file flags and extended attributes? From my learning, the files that names ending in either a . or a ? won't prevent them from being copied on Mac. Only Windows 7 won't allow a ? appear in a file name. So, I guess that the files are copied to the pasteboard but not visible.

Typing Command + Shift + . can show up hidden files and directories on a Mac. You can press the shortcuts to see whether the files show up in gray. If they are, they are hidden on your Mac.

If not, you can try these ways to see if the trouble can be resolved:

  1. Reconnect the external NTFS drive to your Mac.
  2. Restart your Mac.
  3. Update your Mac.
  4. Try using a different NTFS for Mac software like iBoysoft NTFS for Mac to mount the NTFS drive on your Mac.
