macOS Services menu

Many handy features come with macOS, such as Mac Hot CornersUniversal ControlQuick Notes, etc. With them, you can get the most out of your Mac. Here, we are going to introduce another overlooked macOS feature - the Services menu, covering everything a Mac user should know about it.

What is the Services menu on Mac?

The Services on Mac is a feature that enables you to straightforwardly invoke the features of other apps from the menu without having to open those apps. If you are reading a foreign essay on a website, you can select the unknown word to translate it with the options in the Services menu instead of copying the word and pasting it into a translator.

The options available in the Services on Mac are contextual. It depends on the app you are using and the selected elements in Services preferences. In addition, not all apps support the Services menu on Mac, although most seem to. And you are allowed to customize the Services since Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

How to use Services on Mac?

There are two ways to access the Services menu on macOS. When you select a text, a photo, a file, or a folder, you can right-click the selected item, on the drop-down menu, and hover the cursor on Services to expand the menu, including all available options you can perform with the selected content.
