How do I create a TXT file on a MacBook?

I want to create a .txt file on my 2020 MacBook Air. Any suggestions? Is there a built-in app for this? Thx in advance!

There are three ways to create a TXT file on a Mac.

Use the built-in TextEdit

TextEdit is a text editor preinstalled on all Mac computers. You can easily create a TXT file with it by following the steps below:

  1. Launch TextEdit from your Applications > Utilities folder.
  2. Click "New Document."
  3. Click Format in the top-left menu bar.
  4. Select "Make Plain Text."

Use iBoysoft MagicMenu

If you need to create TXT files regularly, using iBoysoft MagicMenu is more efficient. This context menu enhancer allows you to right-click on blank space to create various types of files on Mac, including TXT, DOC, PPT, XML, and many more.

Additionally, it's packed with multiple useful functions that you can quickly access through a right-click, such as complete app uninstallation, duplicate file finder, file compression, opening an app with a specific application, etc.

Use Terminal

You could also execute command lines in Terminal to create a TXT file on Mac. For more details, check out this guide:
