How to Resolve 'OS X can't repair the disk'?

I have been using this External Hard Drive to save files for a long time. Suddenly I can't save files there and/ or move files from my desktop to my Drive. I have a Macbook Air and I tested a different External Hard Drive which is the exact same make, and the other one works. I can't repair it through Utility Disk, so not sure how to fix this problem. I need access to these files and to save files and folders to this Drive to save space on my Mac. HELP!
