My iMac can't boot up, how to bypass the green screen?

What’s wrong with my computer? I was just playing a game when suddenly the screen goes white. I turned it off and back on and then I’m met with a light green background with the apple logo, and half of the logo and loading bar has green stripes. When the bar finishes loading it goes to a light grey screen and shuts down then boots up to the green background again. I would understand if someone said it’s beyond repair and stuff as we’ve had this computer for years.
