Fixes: External HDD not mounting after Ventura Update on Mac

I store all my audio files on an external HDD (Toshiba 1TB). It was working fine until I upgraded to Ventura13.2 from Monterey, after which it's not appearing in either the Finder or Disk Utility. However, I can see it's there as a USB device in System Report, and the power light on the HDD is illuminated. It also appears fine on a MacBook Air running Monterey. I've searched this forum and see a lot of people reporting similar problems but couldn't find a solution. Shall I just downgrade back to Monterey and wait to see if next update presents a fix? and I have to repeat this ritual of powering down the monitor, removing the USB cable, then powering down the Mac, then starting up again in reverse order for the monitor to work. Any help?

Hello, according to your case, here are some suggestions.

Check the file system of the drive on Mac.

  1. 1.If it is the NTFS-formatted drive, please use some professional NTFS drivers for Mac, because macOS can't write the NTFS. Try iBoysoft NTFS for Mac, allowing you to mount, read, and write NTFS drive seamlessly on Mac.

2.If it is not the NTFS-formatted drive. Try:

  1. Check the connections.
  2. Check the Finder settings.
  3. Force mount an external drive on Mac.
  4. Repair the drive with the First Aid in Disk Utility.
  5. Reformat the drive on Mac.

Be careful to backup all the data before some fixes, hope that you can find all the files finally.
