MicroSD card not reading on MacBook Pro with SD card adapter, how to fix?

All other SD cards read fine, but whenever I use an SD card adapter that holds a micro SD inside it, the MBP doesn't recognize it at all. Have tried another card adapter too so know it's not the adapter that's faulty, does anyone else have this issue? How do I fix it?
