Summary: This post from iBoysoft guides people to know the coreMLCache file on Mac and solve the case that coreMLCache hogs a large amount of space on a hard drive.

coreMLCache

Turned on my M1 iMac this morning and got alerts I was running low on Disk space.  Didn't make sense but I started moving items to some external drives.  Long story short ... I reached a point where I found a file called: /Users/glogirl/Library/Application Support/coreMLCache/gendet-v1-fp32-256x256-1x-ml.tz/weights/weight.bin and it is 1.2TB!!!!!!  I searched the community and found only one other reference to "coreMLCache" from last October. The post had a similar problem but the name of the file was different after "coreML Cache/". Response said to reboot in Safe Mode to see if the cache would clear.  It didn't.  Response also said to manually trash the file but I thought I would post here to see if that is OK.  The response also said it was "some kind of machine learning model" ... whatever that means.  I have Apple intelligence turned off. How do I get rid of this?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Being true to the description above, the coreMLCache file also shows up as core MLCache on Mac. Yet a little file cannot attract the user's attention unless it causes a non-negligible issue, for instance, hogging several TBs size of hard drive space and leaving little or no available space for your Mac to run.

Luckily, this post is gonna guide you in exploring what the coreMLCache is and how to free up Macintosh space occupied by it with effective solutions. Let's get started then!

What is the coreMLCache file on Mac?

Through further study of the coreMLCache file showing up in different cases, we find that the coreMLCache is a cache file of the products under the Topaz Labs, including Gigapixel AI, PhotoAI, Video AI, etc. As the photo or video editing software, it's normal that it generates so many support files on the go.

Except for taking up huge space of a hard drive, this coreMLCache file has nothing to do with Mac's security or data safety, or its removal won't affect the software and Mac performance at all. So you can rest assured that the complete removal of the coreMLCache might lead to the failure of the further editing of photos or videos.

Method 2: Remove the coreMLCache from Mac with iBoysoft DiskGeeker

You can also count on a professional Mac disk cleaner - iBoysoft DiskGeeker, which scans for all large yet useless files hiding on the drive and lists them for you to delete.

The Clean Junk feature of iBoysoft DiskGeeker is designed to scan the system drive usually labeled as Macintosh HD, Macintosh HD - Data, macOS, or macOS - Data for redundant data. It can find information and files no longer needed in the system cache, user logs, application cache, downloads, etc.

Files and folders will be listed with file names, modified dates, and sizes for users to select which files should be cleaned to free up the space of the system drive, improve Mac performance, and reduce the system crash risk.

How to remove coreMLCache on Mac with iBoysoft DiskGeeker:

Step 1: Download and install iBoysoft DiskGeeker on your Mac.

Step 2: Select a volume from the startup disk usually labeled as macOS - Data, macOS, or Macintosh HD, or Macintosh HD - Data.

Step 3: Click "Clean Junk" from the toolbar.

This utility not only works excellently in removing the huge coreMLCache file but also monitors the hard drive space usage and scans for junk any time you launch it.

Method 3: Uninstall Topaz Labs product and remove coreMLCache

If you won't use the photo or video editing program at all, you can uninstall it along with the coreMLCache in one go. iBoysoft MagicMenu is such an amazing uninstaller that takes the app and its related files simultaneously, which is super available for you to remove the Topaz Labs apps and its support files, system logs, packages, launch helper, extensions, and so on.

Conclusion

Having a file called coreMLCache to occupy 1.2TB of hard drive space is not a pleasant experience, however, you can always remove it from your machine with the ways mentioned in this post. Furthermore, sharing will be thanked sincerely here!
