iOS 17

iOS 17 upgrade doesn't seem to be a major one like iOS 16, but it does add "most requested features" to iPhone that iPhone users have been looking forward to, just as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman's said. Let's see what new features iOS 17 has in detail:

  • "Smart Display" Lock Screen option when the phone is in a horizontal orientation and locked.
  • Dedicated journaling app for tracking and recording daily activities and thoughts.
  • Updated Control Center interface.
  • More functionality for Dynamic Island.
  • More interactive widgets.
  • Search improvements.
  • Health app to expand to the iPad.
  • The Health app will include new mood-tracking functionality, asking users about their day and tallying up the results over time.
  • Health features for tracking vision changes.
  • Minor Lock Screen updates, such as font size tweaks and the option to share Lock Screen designs.
  • Apple Music Lock Screen interface to possibly gain support for lyrics.
  • Manual adjustment options for App Library folders.
  • More streamlined and intuitive Wallet app.
  • Find My improvements.
  • Support for sideloading apps in Europe.

watchOS 10

Mark Gurman has described that the updates taking place on watchOS 10 are "fairly extensive" although we aren't getting significant updates to Apple Watch hardware this year. Now let's look into the new enhancements on watchOS 10:

  • A new widget system will make it easier to get key information on the Apple Watch without the need to open an app. Widgets will be scrollable and will allow glances at activity tracking, weather, calendar appointments, and more.
  • Buttons like the Digital Crown could be more customizable, with users able to choose to have a press open up the widgets interface rather than the Home Screen.
  • Apple could overhaul the Apple Watch Home Screen in some way, offering a more intuitive layout than the app grid.

macOS 14

WWDC 2023 reveals the name of macOS 14 -- Sonoma, which will be published in the fall of this year, which embraces lots of new features like stunning new screen savers become your desktop wallpaper, you can add widgets to your desktop, access iPhone widgets on Mac, fill out documents faster with AutoFill, flip through a PDF in a note, up-leveling Game Mode, improved privacy and security, and so on.

Apple released the first beta of macOS Sonoma for developers, you can install macOS Sonoma Beta on Mac to have a foot in it immediately, which is available for the following Mac models:

Apple WWDC 2023 releases some hardware improvements as well, including the astonishing AR/VR Headset, MacBook Air 13- and 15-inch with M2, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio.

The new headset runs visionOS and applies two Apple Silicon chips (M2 Ultra and R1), which can last to two hours with a tethered battery pack or for as long as you wish if it is connected to the power supply. It also uses “natural control” with hand and eye tracking as well as voice commands. The Vision Pro headset will arrive “early next year” in the US, and Apple is pricing it at $3,499 to start.

15-inch MacBook Air comes with finless M2 chips, a MagSafe connector, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. It is billed as the "world's thinnest" 15-inch laptop at 0.45in thick and light at 3.3 lbs.

The 15-inch MacBook Air ships on June 13th at $1299. If it's over your budget, 13-inch MacBook Air is a nice choice which prices at $1099.

Mac Studio comes in M2 Mac and M2 Ultra configurations with a higher-bandwidth HDMI port that supports up to an 8K high resolution and 240Hz refresh rates.

Mac Pro is designed with an M2 Ultra chip and 24-core CPU. 24-core CPU runs up to 1.8x faster than a 28-core Intel-based Mac Pro. Its 76-core GPU reaches up to 3.4x faster graphic performance. Mac Pro is able to support up to 8 displays seamlessly at the same time.
