Why does the Remote Management window pop up on Mac?

If a Remote Management window shows up on your Mac, it means MDM (Mobile Device Management) is enabled and your Mac is managed by an organization (like a school or company) that uses remote management to control and monitor devices.

You may be able to bypass the Remote Management window on earlier macOS versions. If you can't, use the tips in the following section.

How to disable Remote Management on Mac without password or with one?

If you're a staff member at an organization, simply contact the IT department or enter the right credentials to get rid of the Remote Management windows from your MacBook. However, if the computer is bought or given by another person, one of the following tips can help you disable Remote Management on Mac.

① Contact the person who sold or gave you the Mac

If this is a second-hand MacBook you purchased from someone, ask the seller for help. They can give you the account information with administrator privileges or remove your device from the MDM. It's possible that he or she forgot to disable Remote Management before sending you.

On macOS Ventura or later:

  1. On the client computer, choose the Apple menu > System Settings > General > Sharing.
  2. Enter the name and password of a user with administrator privileges on the Mac.
  3. Deselect the Remote Management checkbox.

  1. On the client computer, choose the Apple menu > System Preferences > Sharing.
  2. Click the lock icon and enter the name and password of a user with administrator privileges on the computer.
  3. Deselect the Remote Management checkbox.

How to remove Remote Management on MacBook in Terminal:

  1. Log in as an administrator.
  2. Open Remote Desktop.
  3. Run the following command.sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -deactivate
  4. Enter the admin password and hit Enter.

② Avoid connecting to the internet

If you're clean installing macOS, the Remote Management message usually appears after you choose a network. So one workaround is not to pick a network. When prompted to choose an internet option, click "Other network settings," then choose the option "My computer does not connect to the internet."

③ Turn off the WiFi modem

Similarly, if you want to remove remote management from MacBook after factory reset, you can also turn off the WiFi modem so that your Mac can't connect to the old network or any previously saved ones. Then don't connect to any WiFi during the setup.

④ Block your Mac from reaching iprofiles.apple.com

Another trick is to remove the profile after blocking the domain iprofiles.apple.com. You can do it after booting up your Mac or in macOS Recovery Mode as long as you can access Terminal.

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Run the command below to block the domain.sudo echo "0.0.0.0 iprofiles.apple.com" >> /etc/hosts
  3. Enter your account password. Ensure your account has administrator privileges.
  4. Check current profile on your Mac.sudo profiles show -type enrollment
  5. Remove all profiles.sudo profiles remove -all
  6. Check if the profile is removed.
