How to Get Back Accidentally Overwritten Image Files on Mac?

I took some Christmas photos and copied them onto my laptop to make room in my memory card. I copied the photos from the flash card and pasted them onto my desktop. Now when I used to do this on my old PC, the image files would just copy themselves into the same folder alongside the old files. When I copied these new files, they overwrote the old files. I don't know why these files were overwritten and they weren't even named the same. My problem now is recovering these files. I downloaded and installed a program called "Data Rescue" and tried to find these old files but failed. I'm pretty sure the SD card is unrecoverable. Any help?

Case 2: Have Cloud storage.
