According to what you asked, NTFS-3G may satisfy your needs since it's a completely free NTFS for Mac mounter by Tuxera to read and write NTFS external hard drives on macOS, Linux, Android, FreeBSD, and other operating systems. However, an open-source app always has some shortages.

NTFS-3G receives many complaints because of its poor performance and poor usability. It is basically a code source and requires extensive knowledge of command lines. Actually, there are many NTFS for Mac programs in the market with a moderate price. iBoysoft NTFS for Mac is one of them.

iBoysoft NTFS for Mac is able to enable NTFS read-write on Mac seamlessly. This NTFS mounter is easy to use and has a clean UI. Compared with other completely free Mac NTFS programs, iBoysoft has a relatively high writing speed. To open and access an NTFS drive on Mac with iBoysoft NTFS for Mac, do the following:

Step 1: Connect your external hard drive/disk to your Mac or MacBook.

Step 2: Free download iBoysoft NTFS for Mac on the official website of iBoysoft or in the Apple App Store.

Step 3: Double-click the box in the middle of the pop-up named Installer.

Step 4: Click Continue Installation. If necessary, you'll be asked to enable System Extensions to gain full disk access.

Step 5: Launch iBoysoft NTFS for Mac software, your external hard disk should be mounted successfully, and you can access the NTFS disk on Mac or MacBook and read/write NTFS files.
