Delete Apps on One User While Keep It on Another on Mac

I have 2 accounts on my MacBook Air (2015 - 13 Inch). One is for business and the other for personal use. It seems like I can't delete apps on my personal account without deleting them from the other, and vice versa. Can someone tell me what to do?

The truth is that when you install an app on a Mac, the app is shared by users on this device. They are not copies under different accounts, but a single one shared across users.

To delete apps on one user while keeping them on another on your Mac, you can follow these steps:

  1. Copy the app in the main Applications folder to the account you want the app to be kept. In other words, Open Finder, click Macintosh HD under Locations from the sidebar, open the Applications folder, and copy the app you want to delete to the user account you want to keep: the Users folder > your target user name > the Applications folder.
  2. Delete the app in the main Application folder.

I have to remind you that, deleting an app from your Mac by simply moving it to the Trash won't completely delete it. The leftovers of the app remain on your Mac. If you want to completely remove an app from your Mac, you also need to find its leftovers in your user folder. But finding all associated files about the deleted app is very hard as they are scatted in different folders and subfolders.

Alternatively, you can use a professional uninstaller. iBoysoft MagicMenu is a right-click enhancer that is designed with an app uninstallation feature. You can use it to right-click to delete programs and all their leftovers.

  1. Download, install, and open iBoysoft MagicMenu on your Mac.
  2. Select Extension and then click the download button next to Uninstall App to add this feature to your right-click menu.
  3. Right-click the app you want to delete in Finder and then select Uninstall.
  4. Everything about the app will be quickly scanned and checked, simply click Uninstall to delete the app and all its associated files.
