Hey everyone,
I just checked the available storage on my main drive and was shocked by how little space remains. So, I started looking into what’s taking up all the storage, but the numbers just don’t seem to add up.
Disk Utility says I used 1.69TB, but I added all the data in Finder, and it sums up 1.18TB .
So where is my missing 510GB? How can I fix this?
Hey, don’t worry, the free disk space you check from the different tools may be different. Like you, the sum of used space in Disk Utility is different from Finder.
Based on forum discussions, the most likely causes include Time Machine local snapshots, purgeable space on the Mac, system glitches, disk errors, and similar issues.
Let’s find solutions here: macOS Shows Incorrect Free Space.
You can try these fixes:
(1) Empty the Trash.
(2) Restart your Mac.
(3) Remove purgeable space. To remove or delete junk files completely on Mac and get purgeable space. iBoysoft DiskGeeker for Mac is a good tool. You can download it in this site.
(4) Try Mac Safe Mode.
(5) Clear local snapshots.
(6) Reindex Spotlight.
