How can I utilize Migration Assistant to transfer files from a backup stored on an external hard drive? Instead of using Time Machine, I backed up my files with Acronis True Image for Western Digital. The backups are in TBX format, which is not being recognized.
When I connected the external hard drive to my Mac, it initiated a Time Machine backup. However, the Migration Assistant does not recognize the drive.
What can I do?
Hello, you can create a Time Machine backup and migrate your data—it’s straightforward and will resolve your issue.
Alternatively, you can use a bootable clone backup; for this, you’ll need either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (both offer free trial versions) to perform the backup and migration.
Backup all the data in the Time Machine.
Then, open Migration Assistant and select the option to transfer data from Time Machine backup.
Migration Assistant will scan for available sources. If your external drive is not recognized, you may need to manually browse it in Finder to locate your files.
(If your backups are not recognized, you may need to extract the files from the TBX format manually. This typically involves using Acronis True Image software to restore the files to a location accessible by your Mac.)
Once you’ve made your selections, click Continue. The transfer process may take some time depending on the amount of data being transferred.
Hope that this process will help you successfully transfer your data~
