How to Fix macOS Sequoia Window Tilling not Wroking?

Hey everyone,

I just upgraded to macOS Sequoia and I’m having trouble with the new feature window tiling. It seems like the feature that lets you arrange windows side by side (normally accessible through the green maximize button) isn’t working anymore. When I hover over the button, I don’t see the usual options for “Tile Window to Left/Right of Screen.”

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Could this be a bug in Sequoia, or am I missing something? Any tips on how to fix or troubleshoot this would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

There could be several reasons why the window tiling not working as expected in macOS Sequoia. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • Like all new software releases, macOS Sequoia may have some bugs that prevent certain features from working as they should.
  • Sometimes, third-party applications or tools that manage Windows (such as Windows management apps) can conflict with MacOS’s native Window tiling. This can lead to the feature being disabled or malfunctioning.
  • In some cases, Settings Configuration could be tied to the system’s settings. If window tiling has been disabled or misconfigured in System Settings, you won’t see the option to tile windows when hovering over the green button.
  • Window tiling might not function correctly if you’re using an external monitor or have multiple displays. Sometimes, macOS struggles with window management across different screens, particularly if there’s a misalignment in display settings or resolution differences.

Hope you can figure out whether you have these issues or not.

I encountered this issue Mac window tilling not working before, maybe you can try my fixes:

Apple menu > System Settings > Desktop & Dock, scroll down and find Mission Control, please turn on Display have separate Spaces.

After I did this, the window tilling is working again. Hope this can help you~

If your window tilling not working, here are a few solutions to resolve the window tiling issue on macOS Sequoia:

  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. Check and adjust System Settings in Desktop & Dock.
  3. Disable or uninstall some third-party window management tools.
  4. Rebuild the macOS user interface. Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal, type killall Dock and press the Enter key.

Gook luck to you.

How about resetting NVRAM/PRAM? Firstly, turn off your Mac. Then turn it back on and immediately press and hold Option + Command + P + R for about 20 seconds, then release the keys.

Or you can create a new user profile to see whether the issue still remains. Go to System Settings > Users & Groups and create a new account. If it does, the issue might be related to your current user profile’s settings or files.

Sometimes, booting your Mac in Safe Mode can help identify if third-party software is causing the issue:

  1. Turn off your Mac, then turn it on and immediately hold down the Shift key.
  2. Release the Shift key when you see the login screen.
  3. In Safe Mode, try using the window tiling feature to see if it works.

If these can’t work, it’s sad that you have to ask help for the Apple Support or reinstall your macOS.

Thanks!That’s what I need!
