Help! How to Quickly Find Space Hogs on External Drives/Folders?

My external drive is screaming “storage full,” but it’s a jungle of nested folders and files. The built-in Disk Utility only shows the total usage, not which subfolder/file is gobbling up space.

Any quick scan + visual analysis tools or Terminal tricks to spot the culprits?

Thanks a ton! May your drives forever stay green!

Lazy-but-effective method: Use Finder + Smart Folders!

  1. Open your external drive in Finder.
  2. Search with kind: folder and sort by size (enable size column in View Options).
  3. Create a Smart Folder for ‘File Size > 1GB’.

Have a try.

iBoysoft MagicMenu is your friend! It scans your drive or folders and shows the sizes of each. You can simply select and drag the unwanted files here.

So easy to use: In Finder, just right-click the folder or the disk and choose Space Analyze~
