Hi, I have a 1TB hard drive from Lenovo. It is in the Windows NT File System (NTFS) format. I have been looking around for an explanation, but I have no understanding of all of these means. I have an old MacBook Pro from 2016, and it was in good working order. I could use this to back up all of my files. However, I just acquired a 2019 MacBook Pro, and I can’t add files to it because of this hard drive. I am unable to add files on my desktop, but I can view and extract them.
I have an additional 8 GB USB, and it functions properly. Thank you very much for any assistance if you know how to remedy this.
The drive is formatted as NTFS, a Windows-exclusive file system, that’s why you can’t gain full read-write support on your MacBook Pro.
Have you ever installed any third-party NTFS drives for Mac on your 2016 MacBook Pro? If you have, then it makes sense. A third-party NTFS for Mac software such as iBoysoft NTFS for Mac can mount the NTFS drive on Mac in read-write mode so that you can use the NTFS drive on a 2016 MacBook Pro without any limitations.
Therefore, if you want to use the NTFS drive on your new 2019 MacBook Pro, just free download and install iBoysoft NTFS for Mac, then you can transfer files between your Mac and the NTFS drive.
macOS doesn’t support NTFS all the time, and both the 2016 MacBook Pro and 2019 MacBook Pro shouldn’t be able to write data to the NTFS drive by default, it’s highly likely that you have gain NTFS write support on the 2016 MacBook Pro, then you should also enable NTFS write to your 2019 MacBook Pro.
