Can't manually move desktop files on Mojave 10.14.6

I can no longer move my files manually; ever since I updated my MacAir to Mojave 10.14.6, all of my files are now permanently positioned on the right side of the screen. I'd want to reorganize them; is there anyone with any suggestions? I don't have the Stacks option mentioned on another page for an earlier version of Mojave. I appreciate any advice or suggestions you may have.

If you find the Mac desktop files/folders are fixed and you can't move them around, you can check whether you have enabled the Sort feature and choose Snap to Grid:

  1. Right-click the blank area on the desktop.
  2. Hover the cursor on Sort By, and find Snap to Grid on the left drop-down menu.
  3. Click it to uncheck Snap to Grid if you see a "√" symbol next to it.

On newer macOS Mojave and later macOS, there is a Use Stacks feature, if you accidentally enable it, the desktop items will also be fixed to the right side of the screen, you can click it again from the right-click menu to disable it.
