How to Fix Disk Utility and About My Mac Report Different Disk Free Space?

I have an issue that's the opposite of what most people experience. Some have discovered all their "free space" has been eaten up by something invisible and no longer available. My situation is the opposite. According to "About this Mac," Disk Utility and "Get Info" on my drive, I have nearly 750 GB available on my 1TB drive as seen here. However, this is completely incorrect. In fact, I have well over 700 GB used out of 1TB. There's no way I have nearly 750 GB free! Furthermore, when examining storage from "About this Mac" it shows these values (all of which are incorrect). I cannot trust using my Mac in this condition. Any suggestions?

Hello, macOS shows the wrong free space for many reasons, like the local snapshot of Time Machine, the purgeable space on Mac, system glitches, disk errors, and so on. So let's fix this problem:

(1)Empty the Trash.

(2)Restart your Mac.

(3)Remove purgeable space. You are suggested to utilize iBoysoft DiskGeeker, which can help you remove purgeable space cleanly and completely.

  1. Download and install it.
  2. Select the target drive from the startup disk.
  3. Choose Clean Junk from the right toolbar then select purgeable files and click Clean > OK.

(4)Try Safe Mode. 

(5)Reindex Spotlight. 

(6)Repair the drive with First Aid.
