Need Help: How to Remove Jamf from My Mac?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on how to remove Jamf from Mac. I understand it’s a management tool often used by organizations, but I need to remove it for personal reasons.

Has anyone gone through this process? Any tips or steps you could share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Jamf is a powerful mobile device management (MDM) solution designed primarily for macOS and iOS devices. Often used by organizations to manage software updates, security configurations, and other administrative functions. However, there are situations where a user like you might want to remove Jamf from Mac.

Here is how to remove Jamf from Mac, just take it as a reference.

Removing Jamf using System Settings

  1. Apple menu > System Settings.
  2. General > Device Management >
(Here, you should see any configuration profiles installed on your Mac, including any managed by Jamf.)
  3. Select the profile associated with Jamf and click the minus (–) button to remove it.
  4. Restart your computer to ensure any changes take full effect.

This method is often sufficient if you only need to remove the Jamf-managed profile rather than the entire framework.

How about moving Jamf-Related files to Trash?

However, deleting the app to the Trash cannot be completely clean. If you prefer a more manual approach, you can locate Jamf-related files and move them to the Trash together.

  1. Finder > Applications > Right-click Jamf and choose Move to Trash.
  2. Finder > Go > Go to Folder > Type /Library/Application Support.
    (Moreover, type /Library/LaunchAgents.)
  3. Look for any folders labeled “Jamf” or related to your company’s management system.
  4. Select these folders and move them to the Trash.
  5. Empty the Trash to delete the files and the app permanently.

Although this method requires careful file navigation, it’s helpful for removing any remnants left behind after using System Preferences or Terminal.

You can also remove Jamf from Mac using Terminal, but it’s more difficult. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
  2. Type sudo jamf removeFramework and press Enter:
  3. Type sudo -I, you’ll be prompted to enter your administrator password. Type it in (note that Terminal won’t display the characters as you type) and press Enter again.
  4. Type cd /var/db/ and press Enter key, then type mv ConfigurationProfiles ConfigurationProfilesOLD.

Hope this can help you, have a good day.

Hello, maybe you can consider some more convenient tools for uninstalling. Moving all related Jamf data completely seems too troublesome. Uninstallers can help you uninstall/remove/delete the app totally, including the files associated with.

One of them is iBoysoft MagicMenu, a convenient tool that helps manage, organize, and delete files more efficiently on macOS. With this tool, you can remove Jamf-related files quickly and avoid manual file searches:

  1. Download, install, and open iBoysoft MagicMenu.
  2. Click Extension on the left, then scroll down to click the Uninstall App.
  3. Right-click the Jamf app and choose Uninstall.
  4. Select the app and the related data after scanning, and click Uninstall.

This tool simplifies the process, especially for you who prefer a user-friendly interface over Terminal commands.
