My MacBook keeps freezing and restarting itself several times a day, and I can’t figure out why.
Before the update, it crashed around 3 times daily. After updating macOS, the problem has become much worse. Now it freezes and reboots multiple times within minutes.
After each restart, the cursor becomes unusually fast, and Finder often stops responding for about an hour until I reboot again.
I have no idea what is causing it. Has anyone experienced this or know what I should check?
Since the update made it dramatically worse, I would start by ruling out software problems before assuming the hardware is dying.
Try these steps:
Check your available storage space. macOS can become unstable if the system drive is nearly full.
The truth is that our Mac always runs slower and slower as time goes by, especially if your Mac’s available storage space is less. After a software update, the new system files consume more space, so your Mac becomes sluggish.
I suggest you clean up the junk files on your Mac to free up more disk space. If you don’t know which file to delete, you can let the Mac cleaner help you, such as iBoysoft Cleaner.
This AI-driven tool can tell you what to keep and what to delete, remove those stubborn leftovers of already deleted apps, free up RAM, and more.
Restart in macOS Recovery Mode and run Disk Utility > First Aid on your startup disk.
Remove recently installed apps, especially cleaners, antivirus tools, VPN software, or system monitoring utilities.
Create a new user account and test it to see if it’s related to your current profile.
If it’s rebooting without warning, look for kernel panic reports.
