Mac Disk is Full, But I Can't Do Anything to Free Up Space, Any Help?

My MacBook Pro is almost running out of space. I need to delete files to free up space in my MacBook. However, I can’t do that because I need more space to free up space. Does that sound ridiculous?

So far, I’ve tried to directly delete files without moving them to the Trash, but it didn’t work. I’ve tried to use the Terminal and run sudo rm rf, but I can’t type anything because I don’t have enough space and my MacBook is frozen. I even tried to use a third-party tool that I already installed on my MacBook but it didn’t work. I don’t know what to do and am fret to restart my computer because I worry a restart will make my Mac not turn on at all. I haven’t even used Time Machine to back up my MacBook, what should I do?

It is unfortunate that your Mac is almost full and that you can’t do anything to free up space on your MacBook.

You can try to connect an external hard drive to your Mac and then move those large sizes of files to the drive. If you even can’t move files on your Mac, I think that your Mac is frozen. Don’t be afraid of data loss. Try to restart your Mac and see if it can be successfully rebooted. If it can, check if you can move files to your external drive or directly empty the Trash.

If you can’t restart your Mac, go to macOS Recovery Mode. Then, erase your startup disk in Disk Utility and then Reinstall macOS. Of course, this way will cause you to lose all data on your Mac. If you don’t want to lose your files, you can run iBoysoft Data Recovery software in macOS Recovery Mode to get back your data.

Have you tried to boot your Mac in Safe Mode? Safe boot your Mac only use the minimum necessary drivers to boot up your Mac while isolating all third-party programs. Third-party applications usually occupy much space on your Mac. Thus, I think that when your Mac is in Safe Mode, you can delete files or move files to the external hard drive to free up more space.

Wonderful tips, I’ve tried to use iBoysoft Data Recovery software in Recovery Mode to rescue my files, and then erase and reinstall macOS.
