How to repair Disk Utility File system exit code is 8?

Despite the new disk utility’s claim to check and repair it if needed, I get this message:

The volume XXX was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
File system exit code is 8.
Operation succesful.

How can this be fixed? In the past, there was a different button. (The details have the message “Incorrect number of file hard links.”)

“File system check exit code is 8” is an error message that suggests either a corrupt file system was discovered during a file system check or that the repair attempt failed. Other details such as “file system verify or repair failed,” “The volume could not be verified completely,” or “The volume was found corrupt and needs to be repaired” are frequently displayed alongside this issue.

If you encounter the error file system check exit code is 8 on the internal hard drive, you can try to boot the Mac into macOS Recovery Mode, access Disk Utility there, and run First Aid again. Besides you can try Single User mode.

If the above methods don’t work, recover your data first with data recovery software such as iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac, then reformat the drive and reinstall macOS.
