I accidentally overwrote an important Excel file with crucial data for my project. It was saved locally on my Mac Mini M2 running macOS Sequoia.
I was trying to update a spreadsheet and saved over the original file instead of creating a new sheet. I’ve checked the AutoRecover folder, but it doesn’t have this version.
I hope it’s still possible to recover the overwritten Excel file on Mac. If anyone has experience recovering overwritten files, please share your thoughts.
Do you have Time Machine enabled? If you do, there’s still a chance to get back the overwritten Excel files on Mac.
Time Machine saves snapshots at a certain time interval when it’s set to automatically back up your Mac, even if no external drive is connected. To check if there’s a snapshot with the version of the spreadsheet you need:
1.Open Time Machine.
2. Browse different versions of snapshots.
3. Locate the Excel file you need and click Restore. (Remember to save the modified Excel file to a different location to avoid it being overwritten by this version.)
Try iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac. This tool can recover any files that are still on your hard drive. Give it a try. If it can’t find the overwritten Excel file, I’m afraid you’ve lost it.
