Ran Disk First Aid on “Data” (disk3s5), got error (-69845) with doc-id tree issues. Disk Utility and fsck in Recovery Mode didn’t help. If I erase the Mac, reinstall macOS, and restore from Time Machine, will that fully fix it? Any advice?
You can use fsck_apfs to repair the entire APFS container. Restart your Mac and hold down Command + R to enter Recovery Mode. Once in Recovery, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
Type the following command to repair the APFS container (replace /dev/disk3 with your actual APFS container path):
sudo fsck_apfs -y /dev/disk3
After the repair is complete, you can restart your Mac and check if the issue is resolved.
If you encounter error (-69845) when running Disk First Aid on “Data” (disk3s5) and the disk cannot be repaired, and using Disk Utility and fsck in Recovery Mode doesn’t work, you will need to erase your Mac and reinstall macOS.
However, please note that erasing your Mac will delete all the data on your disk. Therefore, it is recommended to first use data recovery software like iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac, which can help you recover data from a damaged disk.
Once the data is fully recovered, you can erase the disk using Disk Utility in Recovery Mode and then reinstall macOS.
