Fix! Different Fan Speed between Left and Right Fan in Macs Fan Control

Hello, I’ve been using Macs Fan Control for a few years, and I’ve just noticed something that I’m not sure is an issue with my device. In the app, my right fan can reach a maximum of 8208 RPM, while my left fan maxes out at 7600 RPM.

While doing some intensive tasks and seeing that my CPU was at 104 degrees Celsius, I checked the fan speeds to decide whether to set them to Full Blast. To my surprise, the right fan was at 8208 RPM, but the left fan was at 7950 RPM and still increasing. After setting it to Full Blast, I could clearly hear the RPM drop. Is this a problem with my device?

If you are experiencing different fan speeds between left and right fans in Macs Fan Control, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

  1. Reset SMC. Resetting the System Management Controller sometimes can resolve fan-related issues.
  2. Check sensor readings. Open Macs Fan Control to check the temperature sensors. Ensure that the readings from both fans are being reported normally.
  3. Set custom RPM. Manually set RPM for each fan in the app.
  4. Switch both fans back to Auto Mode.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, there may be a deeper hardware or software conflict. Please seek professional help.

Hello, maybe you’re currently using an unsupported operating system on your MacBook, which could lead to unexpected problems.

To start, you can run Apple Diagnostics to check for any hardware issues, as it’s quite effective at identifying cooling system problems.

Sometimes, the maximum speed reading is inaccurate due to many reasons. If your system is overheating, it’s likely due to third-party software like antivirus, cleaning tools, or security applications, which are usually unnecessary on a Mac and can cause more issues than they resolve.

To investigate potential software problems, run First Aid in Disk Utility to fix some issues.

There’s a chance that dust is obstructing the fans and heatsink, or that the thermal paste has dried out, reducing efficiency.

Remember, apps like Macs Fan Control might misinterpret data since manufacturers often don’t provide clear information to understand these readings. Most heat-related problems stem from third-party applications, assuming diagnostics don’t indicate a cooling system issue.

So if your Mac runs normally, you don’t have to worry so much about the fan speeds.
