File system exit code is 8 when performing an fsck

When I repair an external drive with First Aid on Mac, it gives me an exit code of 8. What does this mean? How can I fix it?

The “File system check exit code is 8” error typically indicates that the file system is corrupted or that there are serious inconsistencies that fsck could not fix.

To fix it, you can scan it with First Aid again. If your drive has multiple partitions, start from the one at the bottom, then move on to the one above until the physical disk is checked.

If the error persists, consider recovering your data with iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac, then reformatting the external drive on Mac.
