My dad hired an IT company to set up all of our MacBooks. One thing he installed was something called “Remote Support.” I’ve been trying to get rid of it for ages, but I can’t figure out how. My family has the same issue on their Macs.
I can see a process named Remote Support running in Activity Monitor every time the Mac starts, but I can’t find the app anywhere in Applications or Utilities. The icon looks like a pair of small headphones.
Does anyone know how to completely uninstall it? It automatically launches every time I boot my Mac
The headphones icon makes me think it’s a remote access tool that your dad’s IT company installed, but there are quite a few apps with similar icons (such as BeyondTrust/Bomgar, ScreenConnect, Splashtop SOS, etc.).
Since it doesn’t appear in Applications, it’s probably installed as a background service or login item instead of a regular app.
You can check these places:
System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions and see if there’s anything named Remote Support.
Open Finder, press Shift + Command + G, and look in:
/Library/LaunchAgents
/Library/LaunchDaemons
~/Library/LaunchAgents
/Library/Application Support
If you find anything with “remote,” “support,” or the vendor’s name, that’s probably what’s starts it automatically. Take care many app’s has services named “support,” don’t delete the wrong ones.
If you’re not sure what it is, post a screenshot of the Activity Monitor process (or the process name), and someone can identify it.
