While cleaning my MacBook Pro, I accidentally deleted some valuable files and emptied them from the Trash. Is there any chance to get them back? Please help!
I doube it. If the internal hard drive is an SSD, there’s little chance of getting the files back.
As long as your files haven’t been overwritten, they can still be recovered. Cease using your Mac immediately to avoid writing new data to your internal hard drive. Then find a data recovery tool to scan your hard drive to see if the files are recoverable.
I agree with what you said but I’m afraid the TRIM function of SSD may be rather efficient on erasing the blockes. Still, if the SSD hasn’t performed garbage collection and erased the blocks, data recovery tool might be able to retrieve some of the deleted files.
Do I need to pay before scanning the drive? Or can I preview the files for free and then decide if I want to buy the software?
No need to pay beforehand. You can use something like iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac to scan your Mac and preview the found files for free. This way, you only need to pay when your files are discovered and recoverable. I’ll drop the download link here if you need it. (Download here)
Just a note: you should download the software on another Mac to recover the deleted files. If you install it on the Mac where the files are deleted, it may overwrite the files you intend to recover, causing them unrecoverable. If you don’t have another Mac, try to run data recovery from Recovery Mode.
I think data recovery tool is the only way to recover permanently delete files on Mac without Time Machine, apart from looking help from a professional data recovery center. Here’s an article about how to recover permanently deleted photos on Mac, as well as other types of files. [P.S. some may hope to recover permanently deleted files in Mac Terminal. But it’s simply not possible!]
I was able to recover permanently deleted files on MacBook Air with data recovery software but that was on an external drive. So I’m not sure whether it’s the same on an internal disk.
