Battery draining faster and keyboard backlight turning on after macOS 27 update

Has anyone else noticed changes in battery life after upgrading from macOS Tahoe to macOS 27?

Since the update, my Mac seems to lose battery noticeably faster than it did before. It’s not a huge difference, but I can definitely feel that I’m getting less battery life from the same kind of usage.

I’m also seeing something strange with the keyboard backlight. Before shutting down, I set the keyboard brightness to zero and turned off the option to automatically adjust the keyboard backlight in low-light conditions. However, when I start the Mac again, the keyboard backlight comes on by itself.

It stays on during the startup/login screen and only seems to return to my previous setting after I enter my password.

Is this normal behavior in macOS 27, or could it be a bug with the update? Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

Yeah, I’ve noticed the battery thing too after updating to macOS 27. My Mac seems to be draining a bit faster than it did on Tahoe, especially when I’m doing nothing particularly heavy.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much right after the update, though. macOS can do a bunch of background stuff after a major upgrade, so I’m going to give it a few days and see if the battery life settles down.

I haven’t noticed the keyboard light issue personally, but the fact that it only happens before logging in makes me think it might be related to the startup/login process rather than your brightness settings.
