How to Get Back Accidentally Overwritten Image Files on Mac?

I took some Christmas photos and copied them onto my laptop to make room in my memory card. I copied the photos from the flash card and pasted them onto my desktop. Now when I used to do this on my old PC, the image files would just copy themselves into the same folder alongside the old files. When I copied these new files, they overwrote the old files. I don't know why these files were overwritten and they weren't even named the same. My problem now is recovering these files. I downloaded and installed a program called "Data Rescue" and tried to find these old files but failed. I'm pretty sure the SD card is unrecoverable. Any help?

Don't worry, you can find your photos with these solutions below.

Case 1: Don't have any cloud storage.

If you didn't turn on any cloud storage or do any backups. You had better utilize some professional software to recover your important photo data. iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac is an Apple-trusted app for Mac users, which can support SD Card recovery and macOS 10.11-macOS 14.

  1. Free download, install, and open iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac.
  2. Select your SD Card in the left menu, then click Search for Lost Data.
  3. After scanning, preview and select your wanted files then click Recover to save them to another location.

Case 2: Have Cloud storage.

(1)For iCloud: Open iCoud.com, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Data Recovery. Choose your wanted files and select Restore.

(2)For Time Machine: Open Time Machine, browse the timeline and select your wanted ones, click Restore.

In any case, hope you can find your Christmas photos at last.
