Mid 2017 iMac Won't Read SD Card from Canon EOS600D Camera

My mid-2010 27" iMac recently stopped reading SD cards from my Canon EOS600D camera via the SD card slot. I have re-formatted the SD card via the Canon camera, no use. I took out the SD card, but it can't be detected by macOS via an external SD card reader either. Yet my camera has no problems saving and playing photos. The only way I can get the photos off of the camera is to connect the camera USB to the iMac via a USB cable; and then Aperture detects, displays, and imports the images on the camera. I have changed other cards, and I have the same problem. Can anyone me some advice? Thanks.

According to your description, I think that the glitch seems to be the SD card slot on your iMac. That's because the SD card is workable on your Canon camera, the SD card from the camera can't be detected by macOS through a card reader, but you can connect the camera to your Mac via a USB and see the images.

To make your mid-2010 27" iMac detect the SD card from your Canon camera and show the images on it, you can check your connections.

  1. Unplug the Canon EOS600D camera's SD card from your iMac and then insert it into your iMac slightly and correctly. Next, restart your iMac.
  2. Clean up the slot on your iMac and then replug the card.

If the above tricks are useless, ask the local repair center to repair the card slot on your iMac.
