I used to be able to right-click anywhere on my Mac’s desktop to open a context menu with options like New Folder, Get Info, etc. However, this ability has gone somehow even though Secondary Click is enabled in System Preferences > Mouse and I can right-click properly in Finder or on a program. So basically, right-click works anywhere except for my desktop. P.S. I’m using a MacBook Pro with a magic mouse. How do I make right-click work on the desktop again?
It doesn’t make sense that you can’t right-click on the Mac’s desktop but can right-click in Finder. It’s probably due to a software glitch. Have you recently reset your Mac or installed any updates?
Hi, fourleafclover. I did reset my computer not long ago.
A right-click enhancer may help. Download iBoysoft MagicMenu to see if it shows up when you right-click on the desktop.
Disable and re-enable Secondary Click may be worth a try. Follow these steps:
- Go to System Preferences > Trackpad, then disable “Secondary Click” and close System Preferences.
- Repeat step 1 and enable “Secondary Click” with two fingers.
- Close System Preferences.
- Press Option-Command-Esc, select Finder, and click Relaunch.
- Try to right-click on your desktop again.
