Why Can't I Read SD Card Used in Camera on a Mac

I have shot many photos on my SD card and want to copy the photos from the SD card to my MacBook via an adapter. Unfortunately, my Mac says the SD card is unreadable. I learned that the solution to make the card readable on my Mac is to format it, but this way will wipe my photos. So my question is, is there any way to read and copy data from this card to my Mac?

Go to Disk Utility (Launchpad > Other) to check whether the SD card is mounted by your Mac. If it is not, click the Mount button to try to manually mount it.

If it cannot be mounted, use First Aid in Disk Utility to check and repair the tiny errors on the SD card.

If your SD card is not readable on your Mac yet after trying all these methods, your card is probably corrupted. You have to use a data recovery tool to recover photos from it and then reformat it.

I have used iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac. This data recovery tool is easy to use and can help recover files on corrupted, inaccessible, and unreadable storage devices quickly, such as SD cards, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

Here’s how to use the tool to get back files:

  1. Download iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac and install and open it on your Mac.

  2. Select the corrupted SD card and click Scan for Lost Data.

  3. Wait for the scanning process to end and preview the photos on your SD card.

  4. Select the photos you want and click Recover to get them back.

After that, go to Disk Utility to erase the SD card.

Have you checked your adapter? Maybe the adapter is damaged or isn’t connected to your MacBook well, causing the SD card to be unreadable.
