What Is the Real Speed of Internal SSD on Mac?

The 2023 Mac mini boasts a memory bandwidth of 200GB/s, according to its specification. However, when I run disk speed tests on My Mac mini with the 1TB internal SSD, I get these results:
Blackmagic Disk Speed: 5.8GB/s Write and 5GB/s Read; DiskMark: 3.8GB/s Write and 4.8GB Read.

It seems far below the 200GB/s, how to speed up?

The 200GB/s memory bandwidth refers to the system’s unified memory access speed, not the SSD’s read/write speed. It measures how fast the M2 Pro chip can access data in the memory, not storage performance. SSD speeds are typically in the range of a few GB/s.
Your disk speed test results (~5GB/s) are consistent with what is expected from the internal SSD of a 2023 Mac mini.

Your speed is faster than many Macs, don’t worry so much about the results as long as it doesn’t influence your normal use.
Or you can consider using these ways to improve the speeds:

  1. Close background applications.
  2. Free up more storage and delete unnecessary files. iBoysoft DiskGeeker for Mac is a good choice.
  3. Update macOS.
  4. Reset the SMC and NVRAM.

If these steps don’t align with your expectations, consult Apple Support to confirm your SSD is functioning correctly or consider upgrading your storage solution if needed.
