Hello everyone, I recently discovered a file called “ExitUpsellKeyValueStore” in my documents folder. and I don’t recall making it. Could this be a malware file or is it a legal Apple file? Can I delete it?

It’s never pleasant to discover strange files on your computer. You must guess does anyone else put the unfamiliar file there on your MacBook Air/Pro/iMac and worry about potential risks such as data leakage.
ExitUpsellKeyValueStore is a file that users have been finding in their Documents folders recently. Some users assumed this file might be malware of some kind, including viruses. On the other hand, the file often shows up a day or two after buying the Mac. Affected consumers also claimed not to have downloaded suspicious apps or clicked on risky links, which makes Mac users more puzzled.
To put it simply, the Apple TV+ program creates the file ExitUpsellKeyValueStore. It shows up after you watch one of the free episodes that the service provides to users who are not subscribers.
Some lines containing an identifying code can be found if you open the file in TextEdit. The episode you viewed will display that identifier on its URL if you launch Apple TV+ in Safari and play it.

The ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file is automatically created by the Apple TV as long as you open it and play free episodes. Therefore, it is not malware or virus, and the ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file is safe.
You can delete the ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file in the Documents folder given that many users have removed it from their Macs, with no known negative effects yet. As it seems, it’s safe to delete the ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file.
If you want to be cautious, you can delete the file and keep it in Mac Trash, if no abnormal issue happens to your Mac for a period, you can then empty the ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file from Mac Trash. Besides, you can keep the ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file by compressing it into a .zip or use an external disk to store it out of your Mac.

If it’s safe to delete the ExitUpsellKeyValueStore file, I will put it in the Mac Trash and empty it until I ensure there are no negative effects.
