The operation can't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission?

For some reason, I don’t have permission to write to my own external drive. In fact, I no longer have permission to write to any of my external hard drives, which are formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I get infoed the drives, and I am listed as the owner with read and write privileges, but I can’t change the permission for everyone from read only to read/write. I’ve exhausted all the solutions I can think of, but to no avail:

  • Run First Aid
  • Reinstall macOS Monterey
  • Plug directly into the Mac without a hub
  • Reboot the computer

Is there something I’m missing? If you know of a solution that may work, please share it with me. Thanks in advance!

Do you have some kind of protection software? It seems to me that your Mac has such an app preventing any external access. This is common on cooperate computer for data security.
