This bizarre message reading “Sharingd wants to use the login keychain” showed up on my Mac. I’m confused and need help. If you can, please help me understand the followings:
The macOS Sharingd process is a daemon process responsible for enabling AirDrop, Handoff, Instant Hotspot, Shared Computers, and Remote Disk in Finder. It first appeared in Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
The message “Sharingd wants to use the login keychain” appears when Sharingd needs your password or account information to run one of the services that require permissions.
That said, it’s a legitimate system process and your Mac is most likely not hacked. Yet, I still suggest you open Activity Monitor to see if it’s running in the background.
There’s no need to disable a perfect normal system process. If you want to stop the popup “Sharingd wants to use the login keychain,” you can tap the Cancel button 3 times or type in your keychain password if you’re enabling a related service.
My problem with Sharingd is that it takes up 90 - 100% of my CPU. I’ve disabled File Sharing in an attempt to stop it but it didn’t work. I also repaired disk permissions and reset SMC to no avail. Can you please help me with it?
Try to disable the services that activate Sharingd, including AirDrop, Handoff, Instant Hotspot, Shared Computers, and Remote Disk. If Sharingd still uses up your Mac’s CPU, log out of iCloud.
