SD Card Reader Broken After Updating to macOS Monterey

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me out with this frustrating issue.

I just updated my Mac from Monterey 12.6.1 to 12.6.2, and now my built-in SD card reader has completely stopped working. It was working perfectly fine before the update—no issues at all.

What I’ve Tried So Far:
:heavy_check_mark: Tested multiple SD cards—none are recognized in the built-in reader.
:heavy_check_mark: Verified the same cards work fine in an external USB card reader.
:heavy_check_mark: Cleaned the SD card slot with a plastic toothpick and compressed air (no luck).
:heavy_check_mark: Attempted to restart the USB daemon via Terminal—no change.

Has anyone else run into this after the latest update? Any suggestions besides downgrading (which I’d rather avoid)?

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely suggest that you’d better recover the data on your SD card as soon as possible.
Just as you said, you tried many fixes but the SD card reader worked well, so the problem may be wrong with the SD card.
Do a data recovery with the professional tool iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac.

  1. Download, install, and open it.
  2. Choose your SD card and click Search for Lost Data.
  3. After scanning, preview and choose the needed files, then click Recover to save them to a another place.
