Not Enough Free Disk Space on Steam,But I have more than enough space

I keep getting a Not enough disk space error whenever I try to download or update a game. The weird thing is that I have 1.2 TB free on one drive, 220.5 GB on another, and 130 GB on a third.

It happens no matter which of these drives I choose. I’ve been dealing with this for months and can’t figure out what’s causing it. Any ideas?

Run Steam as administrator first. If it still doesn’t work, run Disk Cleanup to safely reclaim storage.

  1. Press Windows + S, type Disk Cleanup, and open it.
  2. Select the drive where Steam is installed and click OK.
  3. Select unnecessary files such as Temporary files, Recycle Bin, System cache, and Delivery Optimization Files.
  4. Click OK > Delete Files to confirm.

For a deeper cleanup, click Clean up system files to remove old Windows update files and other system data that may occupy several gigabytes.

Cache accumulates day by day. Go to Steam settings > Downloads > find Clear Download Cache > click Clear cache.

Then, check how much space gets released then.

If you keep seeing the “Not enough free disk space” error because your drive is running out of room, consider moving your Steam games to a larger drive. Instead of reinstalling everything, you can use a reliable disk cloning tool, such as iBoysoft DiskGeeker for Windows, to clone the entire disk or selected partitions to another drive and free up space.
