Magic Mouse 2 Right Click Intermittently Turns to Left Click, What to Do?

Right-click on my Magic Mouse 2 paired with my new MacBook Air (running Big Sur 11.2.3) has some issues. Intermittently every 20th click, the right click becomes a left click. I thought it was a hardware problem and I bought a brand new Magic Mouse 2, but no change. I don’t know what’s the true cause.

You can try to reset your mouse settings. Go to the Apple icon > System Settings > Mouse. Then, choose “Secondary click” from “Click Right Side” to “Click Left Side” and then back to select “Click Right Side.”

This operation can make the operating system re-activate the right-click on your mouse. Sometimes, the system bug may lead to the right-click intermittently turning to the left-click.

When the mouse works improperly, you can try these ways:

Way 1. Re-create the .plist files of the mouse

The .plist file (or property list file) contains the settings data for the mouse. If there’s any error, your mouse will perform abnormally like right-click intermittently turns to the left-click.

  1. Launch Finder.
  2. Click Go on the Finder menu bar > Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/Preferences and press Return to open the Preferences folder.
  4. Find the .plist files below that are related to the mouse and delete them.
    com.apple.AppleMultitouchMouse.plist
    com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
  5. Reboot your Mac to let these .plist files be automatically recreated.

Way 2. Un-pair your Magic Mouse and then re-pair it in Bluetooth Settings

Way 3. Update your Mac

Perhaps, this problem results from system bugs. You can update your Mac to get rid of it.
