Last week my Mac started having issues. Upon boot up it would show a gray screen with a circle and a slash through it
I was told that I should reinstall my OS. However, it just wouldn’t load.
I boot from a bootable disk, but I can’t see the Mac hard drive to put the macOS, it says Uninitialized in Disk Utility and I tried to erase the partition(I have nothing on my Mac that needed saving). However, it just sat on the erasing tab for a very long time without moving. I’m lost at what to try next any help would be greatly appreciated
If there is a circle with a line or slash across it, the Mac can detect an operating system on the startup drive, but it is unable to boot from that particular build or version of macOS. and at the start provide feedback by showing a crossed-out circle.
Yes, you need to erase the drive and reinstall macOS. If it gets stuck, try to restart the Mac and reboot into the macOS Recovery again. It it still fails, try Internet Recovery Mode to erase the Mac hard drive.
I tried Internet Recovery but I’m getting the same thing. No drive to install the OS to and not able to do anything in the disk utility. I think my drive might be bad. It won’t let me erase the HDD it just won’t load.
It seems like there is a drive failure, but luckily, there is no important data you need to retrieve. Maybe it’s time to take a replacement, you can try SSD for a good read and write speed. Besides, it is a good habit to back up Mac regularly to avoid data loss from unexpected errors. iBoysoft DiskGeeker for Mac can quickly clone the Mac hard drive, free Download iBoysoft DiskGeeker for Mac if you need it.
