Mac Hard Drive Free Space Disapperaing Rapidly

My MacBook Pro usually has about 120GB of free space. Yesterday, it was suddenly down to 12 GB. Then it shrunk to 7 GB after a couple of minutes. Now, it’s hovering between 12 and 20 GB. Where did my free space go?

I have FileVault turned on and routinely run CleanMyMac about once a week to free up disk space. I haven’t downloaded anything huge that would point to such a dramatic reduction. Please me help me figure it out!

Open System Settings > General > Storage to view your Mac’s storage usage. Pay attention to categories that consume the most storage space.

For instance, you may notice Podcasts taking a huge amount of space. Click the info button to view the relevant podcasts and delete unwanted ones.

Also check the Time Machine snapshots. Open Disk Utility, select the Macintosh HD volumes, then click View > Show APFS Snapshots from the menu bar.

Select the unnecessary snapshots and click the delete (-) buttont to remove them.
