Is the Annoying Permission Prompt for Screen Recording A Bug on macOS Sequoia?

Recently, I installed macOS Sequoia Beta on My MacBook Air, everything was going well, but I always received the permission prompt for screen recording when I needed to use certain apps to take a screenshot, it occurs to every screenshot or screen recording app on my device, it is not very pleasant, I have already turned on permissions in Settings for those apps, but it keeps popping up on the screen, saying that:

“[App name] can access this computer’s screen and audio. Do you want to continue to allow access? This application may be able to collect information from any open applications on your desktop while the app is running.”

I wonder if this permission prompt is a bug. Or is it a new privacy and security feature added by Apple to macOS Sequoia? If it is, how does it work? How can I remove this annoying prompt?

As observed by 9to5Mac, several developers claim that Apple has confirmed that this is a new security feature, thus it is not a bug. It is specifically related to ScreenCaptureKit, a framework developed by Apple that was released in macOS Monterey in 2021 to help screen recording applications. This more stringent permission limit for screen recording introduced in the upcoming macOS Sequoia needs you to give explicit approval to any apps that require screen access every week and after every restart.

This is supposed to be a weekly prompt. You will get this prompt each week when you try to use the app for the first time, and you will need to choose whether to “Continue To Allow” or “Open System Settings”. Each time you use an app for the first time after restarting your Mac, the prompt will also show up.

I have encountered the same issue, and when I choose Continue to Allow on the permission prompt for screen recording, there is a significant delay before the button responds to clicks. Sometimes, it doesn’t respond at all, I need to repeat the operation to trigger that prompt and click Continue to Allow so that I can continue taking a screenshot. The most annoying thing is that I clicked Continue to Allow, and it responded, but while I was choosing the area to screenshot, the prompt appeared again, right within my selected area!!! So I have to cancel it and repeat it, it is extremely terrible.

It seems that this new security feature is not stable, and it is normal to find some unpleasant issues when we are experiencing a beta version of macOS Sequoia. Perhaps, Apple will fix these issues related to the permission prompt for screen recording in its later beta versions or the final release.

Apple desires to make it clear that some apps attempt to capture or stream screen images, and you need to give explicit approval by clicking “Continue to Allow”. It could also help you be aware of the processes that want to collect information on your desktop, and prevent malicious ones or disable permissions for old apps that may not need access. But it can’t be denied that it is tedious given that Mac users can’t approve the permission for screen recording for the desired and trusted apps forever such as adding an “Always Allow” button, Mac users have very limited decision-making power. It is not clear will Apple change the rule in the future.

I am suffering from these problems right now! It troubles me a lot due to I need to frequently take screenshots on My Mac for my work. :sob: :sob: :sob:

I Hope Apple will enable me to Allways Allow screen recording permission for my trusted app, otherwise, I may consider downgrading macOS to Sonoma, it is pretty inconvenient.
