I have to protect my external hard drive in Windows using BitLocker for security. Today, I need to use the BitLocker-protected drive to do some tests on a MacBook. After I connect the drive to my MacBook, a message pops up saying “The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer”. Can I read this BitLocker-protected drive on a Mac? Do I need to disable BitLocker encryption on this drive before I can use it on MacBook?
BitLocker encryption is a security feature in Windows to protect entire volumes from unauthorized data access and exposure. macOS isn’t compatible with BitLocker, so it doesn’t have the ability to access and read the BitLocker-encrypted hard drives.
You can connect your BitLocker drive to your Windows PC and turn off BitLocker encryption. Note that NTFS is read-only on Mac. Before using the drive on Mac, confirm its file system as well.
Do not turn off BitLocker encryption. Without BitLocker protection, the data on the external hard drive face a higher risk of data loss. You can use iBoysoft BitLocker for Mac to enable you to read and access BitLocker encrypted drives on a Mac.
This software supports reading and writing BitLocker encrypted NTFS, exFAT, and FAT32 hard drives on Mac computers seamlessly.
Simply download iBoysoft Bitlocker for Mac and install it on your Mac. Then, insert your BitLocker-encrypted drive into your Mac and enter your password or BitLocker recovery key. Now, you can read and write to your BitLocker drive on your Mac freely.
It’s an NTFS drive, thanks for your reminder.
I tried this software, and it helps me read and write to a BitLocker encrypted drive on my Mac. Excellent tool!
