I have two Macs, one is a 2011 Mac mini, and the other is a 2020 MacBook. I want to use macOS Big Sur but my Mac doesn’t support it. I need to know whether it is legal to install Big Sur on my 2011 Mac mini with the “famous” patcher from GitHub.
There’s nothing illegal about installing macOS Big Sur on your own old Mac. I can only say that installing macOS on an unsupported Mac may cause instability and poor performance in the system. Your Mac can’t run macOS Big Sur as smoothly and stably as on a supported Mac device.

Every Mac model has limitations on compatible macOS versions. Your Mac will run properly, stably, and fast under these supported macOS versions. Although it is legal to install an unsupported macOS version on your Mac with OpenCore-Patcher, your Mac may experience unforeseen issues, such as system crashes, booting failure, screen freezing, etc.
