External Mouse Keeps Right Clicking on My MacBook When I'm Not Trying to

I have an external mouse connected to my 2020 i9 MacBook Pro. When I read a doc or watch a video, the right-click menu keeps popping up. I am sure that I really don’t touch the mouse. What’s wrong with my external mouse?

Your external mouse is probably faulty. You can disconnect it from your MacBook and then reconnect it. If the issue continues, change your USB port or USB adapter.

I think the possible reasons that cause your external mouse to keep right-clicking are one of the following:

The right-click configuration is faulty.
The Control key is being accidentally pressed or stuck when you right-click, which activates a right-click.
Conflicts between Trackpad and the third-party external mouse.

You can try these ways to stop your external mouse from consistently right-clicking.

  1. Reset Trackpad and mouse PLIST files

Open Finder > Go > Go to Folder.
Enter ~/library/preferences/ to access the preferences folder on your Mac.
Find and delete com.apple.AppleMultitouchMouse.plist, com.apple.AppleMultitouchTrackpad.plist, and com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist.
Restart your Mac to let the Track and mouse-related .plist files to be automatically reset.

  1. Reconnect your mouse

  2. Change your third-party mouse to an Apple Magic mouse

You’d better ignore the built-in trackpad when the mouse or wireless trackpad is present in System Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control. Conflicts between the Trackpad and mouse are the culprit.

I have fixed the issue with the first solution. Thanks!
